The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus, in the House of Representatives, has described as ‘well-deserved’, the Governor of the Year Award from The Sun newspaper to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Governor Wike will, on Saturday, personally receive the award at the 2017 edition of the highly prestigious the Sun Man of the Year Awards ceremony to be held in Lagos.
Chairman of the Caucus, Leo Ogor, in a statement he personally signed, hailed Governor Wike, saying, “As an irrepressible embodiment of the PDP’s resilience”, adding that it was highly commendable that The Sun and other organisations which have recently honoured the governor, looked beyond “the consistent propaganda and disinformation from his political foes” to see that negative comments have not deterred the governor’s developmental efforts.
Ogor further said in the statement entitled: “Honour to whom honour is due, Governor Wike shines Again”, that the recognition that has come from respectable and independent bodies including The Sun Newspaper , Independent Newspaper, African Leadership Magazine and Authority Newspaper are pointers to the governor upholding the tenets of effective leadership.
According to the PDP House Caucus, Governor Wike’s achievements and the latest award from The Sun, “easily reaffirm PDP’s significance for a future that would reflect genuine change in Rivers state and all other parts of the federation”.
The statement continued: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives heartily felicitate with one of our own, His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike, the irrepressible governor of Rivers State, for this well-deserved recognition.
“While our party, the PDP is working to surmount internal challenges and the onslaught of vicious propaganda of the ruling party, Governor Wike has demonstrated such impactful resilience that ensures continuous progress and development for his people – even in the face of spiteful propaganda and nasty politics.
“As King George V once said, “The highest of distinctions is service to others” and Governor Nyesom Wike has truly excelled.
“We congratulate the entire people of Rivers state for having a focused and determined leader with such passionate commitment to his development vision for a New Rivers State and the protection of every citizen’s right to life and religious liberty.
“Ongoing and completed infrastructure and other projects in various parts of Rivers State are concrete realities that attest to the people-oriented disposition of Governor Wike and we salute him and the entire people of Rivers state as they continue to show that Nigeria’s propaganda chieftains have no real root in such a state”.
