Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru, has explained why the Federal Government included Enugu State, a non-oil producing state in the presidential initiative on the industrialization of the Niger Delta region.

He spoke in Akure, Ondo State, at the stakeholders’ forum to discuss the economic potentials in Niger Delta states, adding that Enugu State was blessed with abundance of cashew nuts and other economic fruits needed in the global competitive market.

He was optimistic that the decision would turn the state into investment destination, boosting its economy and creating job opportunities for the people.

He said Enugu State had the potentials to benefit from the agricultural programmes that contained in the presidential initiative.

He said: “It will be unwise and unfair to exclude the state in the programme due to delineation. More importantly is that the state is very close to Abia State, which is an oil producing state. It will be easier and beneficial to all.”

Daily Sun gathered that the presidential initiative was established to champion the revival of some moribund industries in all the nine states of the Niger Delta region.

The industries which hitherto contributed immensely to the economy and created thousands of job went moribund due to unfavorable government economic policies, high cost of production or bad management system of the industries.
