ade Bakare, a Nigerian-British fashion designer and creative director of Ade Bakare Couture, is one person that has made a significant contribution to the Nigerian fashion industry.
Aside his ready to wear designs, he also has a fashion school where he grooms fashion enthusiasts. He and members of his team are working feverishly to ensure the success of the upcoming launch of his second perfume line, which he has named after himself, Ade Bakare Signature.
On that same day, he will also present the 2018 Summer Collection, tagged ‘Wonyosi’, a petal lace that was very popular in the 80’s.
The soft spoken designer said the occasion, which will take place at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, on December 3, will feature upcoming designers. An opera singer is also expected to perform at the media event expected to have razzmatazz. He also told Sunday Sun about his favourites.
What is your favourite colour?
My favourite colour is yellow. It’s so bright and uplifting and for fashion it works with most colours, though personally I always wear black. I find it cool and sophisticated, moreover it makes it easy when you are deciding what to wear.
Favourite sports?
Swimming, I simply adore water and being surrounded by it is bliss. Besides, swimming is great exercise.
Favourite holiday spot?
Monaco, the annual bal de ete is a must; then after the Grand Prix and bal everyone departs and it is quiet and peaceful.
Favourite food?
Lamb and mash in England, pounded yam and egusi in Nigeria
Favourite music?
Fela and now Terry Apala
Favourite fashion accessories?
Glasses, they give that mysterious look and aura.
Favourite movie?
The Moderns, watched it many times and the film stuck in my memory till now.
Favourite book?
The bible has all the answers even for business
Favourite leader?
Margaret Thatcher, she stuck to her opinions and was unwavering.
Favourite television series?
It is Battleground, which runs on DSTv. The story is about high society life in Lagos. We design the outfits for the billionnaire’s wife and daughter – Adora and Teni.
