Although he spent less than the required 91 days in the action-packed
confinement called Big Brother Nigeria, Katung on Sunday emerged
winner of the Guinness sponsored M-Net reality TV show, with
the whooping cash prize of one hundred thousand US dollars
in his kitty.
The two-hour tension-filled session marked the end of the
show Sunday, just as presenters Olisa Adibua and Michel Dede
were at their best while ushering in musicians and housemates
into the arena. It was an evening of fun and great expectations
as tension mounted at intervals prior to the announcement
of each of the evicted housemates. The first housemate to
be evicted out of the Naija Four was Sandy, followed closely
by Ify. Musical entertainment followed and the anxiety and
suspense grew more intense with just Katung and Francisca
left in the house. The $100,000 cash prize was also conveyed
to the venue of the show by UBA in a metallic jeep and Olisa
was on hand to announce the winner.
Eventually, Katung was announced winner and Francisca was
first ushered out of the house. A smart Katung did not leave
the house without a bottle of Guinness Stout in his hands
and expectedly, he was offered the box containing the cash
in the presence of the remaining housemates and other dignitaries.
However, the remaining housemates did not lose out as some
of them had several fantastic offers coming their way. First,
Virgin Nigeria gave each of them a return ticket to London
while JFC had a South African deal for Joseph. In the same
way, there was a Dublin treat for Ify and Katung just as Francisca
bagged a sweet offer for a tour of Australia.
It would be recalled that Katung and Sandy joined the BBN
house three weeks after the first set of 12 housemates had
already been established. Also two housemates; Yinka and Ichemeta
had been evicted before the entrance of both Katung and Sandy-
a ploy which some observers feared was designed to pave way
for the victory of either Katung or Sandy. But other observers
believe that Katung deserves the victory as he displayed skill,
tact and smartmess in the BBN house throughout his stay.
