The Chief Commercial Officer(COO), Zoommobile Communications
Ltd, Mr.Fabian Uzor, has disclosed that the reason many network
expansion is slow in Nigeria in the last couple of months
is the global financial meltdown that is fast eating deep
into the economy.
He explained to a large audience at a panel of discussion
at the on-going sixth annual West and Central Africa Com,
held at the Abuja Conference Centre, that the meltdown was
biting hard and the basic issue at hand was to ensure that
human capacity was well equipped, motivated and informed to
attend to the need of subscribers.
He also noted that every operator is being affected by overhead
cost of operations and no network is left out of the dire
situation.
However, he added that outsourcing is a major attempt that
many operators have hinged on in order to increase their efficiency
as well as their productivity.
He insisted that many operators are offering various services
but only a few have been able to distinguish themselves, while
stressing that irrespective of the economic crunch, some of
them have tried to provide the necessary services to their
various subscribers.
However, he also advocated a relaxed regulation on the part
of the government to aid the telecommunication sector. He
added that every operator in the world usually is backed by
the government of its country, this he noted, would go a long
way in achieveing better and faster result.
Uzor added that there is no falsehood in claiming that the
global economic meltdown has affected investments not only
in Nigeria but the West and Central Africa communications.
