The future of Celestine Babayaro at Newcastle United is now a big doubt as the Magpies new boss, Sam Allardyce, looks set to make Wigan full-back, Leighton Baines, his first signing for Newcastle.

Allardyce is reportedly said to be lining up a £5 million bid for the left-back, thus fueling speculations that the former Bolton Wanderers coach does not have faith in the injury-prone Nigerian international who was inconsistent in Newcastle campaign last season as a result of injury.

22-year-old Baines has 11 caps for the England Under-21 side, and has his sights on a move to a bigger club.
Baines is said to be gutted that Paul Jewell left the JJB Stadium, as he was the man who moulded him into an international player.

The youngster is allegedly being watched by Manchester United, Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham, but Allardyce is likely to guarantee him a starting place at Saint James’ Park ahead of 29-year-old Babayaro.
