Loyalists of the former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have warned the Kano State Police Commissioner to desist from infringing on their fundamental human rights in guise of policing the state.
The Chief of Staff in the immediate past administration, Dr. Yinusa Adamu Dangwani declared that loyalists of the former governor can never be intimidated by the tactics of the state police boss, reminding him that, “this is Kano, the home of Mallam Aminu Kano, nobody can stop us from engaging in lawful assembly.”
His angry reaction followed the alleged disruption of an event at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Mumbayya House, Kano, on Monday.
Policemen were said to have sealed off the venue of the event, forcing invitees to shift the educational programme to Lugard House, owned by Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the founder of the Movement.
Dangwani, who is one of the leaders of the Movement told Daily Sun, on telephone, that the two-day event was organised to interact with some the beneficiaries of the oversea and Nigeria tertiary education scholarship sponsored during the previous administration.
He said the guests list also included some others who were admitted into the North-West University, Kano, as well as many of who had returned home after their  graduation, adding that the idea was to engage them to see their problems and know where to intervene.
He said the event had gone on smoothly on the first day but by the time they returned the next day the venue had been barricaded by the police.
“While the members of our faction hold events without rancor or conflict, the event of the other faction of the party are often characterised by rancor, yet the police boss elect to turn his eyes the other way,” he said.
He accused the Police Commissioner of bias and reminded him that members of the Kwankwassiya Movement were Nigerians, who are protected by all the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf, in a telephone interview, last night, denied knowledge of policemen disrupting the event of the Movement.
