A university lecturer identified as Prof. Richard Okorodudu has allegedly escaped death from the hands of attackers  suspected to be kidnappers in Ughelli, Deta State.

The victim said to be a staff of the Delta State University, Abraka was driving along Euredebor Street in Ughelli about 8pm when he was attacked by a  kidnap gang operating in the area.

A family source said the suspected kidnappers ordered the professor to step out of his Prado Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) which he yielded, adding however that when he resisted them and tired to escape, the attackers became harder on him.
In anger, the group leader allegedly shot him on the head and hand and made away with the SUV with registration number EKY-527-DJ and chassis number JTEB X9FJ 8EK184233 leaving him in pool of his blood.
He was later rescued and taken to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Contacted, Public Relations Officer of the state police command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said his office was yet to receive the information, but sources within Ughelli division said the police had commenced a manhunt for the fleeing gang members.
According to a source, the police have already spread their dragnet and are closing in on members of the group, and called on anyone with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the hoodlums or the recovery of the vehicle to report to the nearest police station.
