Uruguay defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0 at the Rostov Arena to book their place in the last 16 of the World Cup, courtesy of a first-half strike from Luis Suarez.

The Barcelona striker netted his 52nd international goal on his landmark 100th appearance, taking full advantage of a goalkeeping error from a routine corner.

Despite being far from their best for a second match running, victory for Uruguay – five days after claiming a late win against Egypt – is enough to send them through to the knockout stage.
