FORMER acting president of Nigeria Football Federation
(NFF), Chief Mike Umeh has tasked new
Anambra State Sports Commissioner, Dr (Mrs) Uju
Nwogu to call a meeting of football stakeholders in
the state as a way of resolving the lingering crisis
rocking the state FA.
Anambra it would be noted is yet to conduct its
FA election over one year after all other states of the
federation did so.
Umeh said yesterday that the new sports commissioner
should convene a parley of stakeholders where
all the issues holding down football in the state can
be resolved.
“It was celebration galore in the state when Gov.
Obianor appointed the new sports commissioner. She
has to make that count by wading into the football
crisis and getting it resolved. She should call a meeting
of all genuine stakeholders. Anambra is blessed
with the largest pool of businessmen who are ready
to invest in the game. If the government partners with
this businessmen, the state will bounce back as Nigeria’s
Mecca of football. We want to see a return
to the era when Anambra had three premier league
sides. The likes of Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, Dr Chidi Anyaegbu,
Rommy Ezeonwuka, Gabriel Chukwuma, Dr
Polycarp Emenike, Oddy Ikpeazu and my humble
self are there to take Anambra football to the next
level. All we need is for peace to return to football in
the state. Anambra football has suffered enough. We
thank God we have a new sports commissioner that
can resolve all the dirty politics the man who was
there before failed to do anything about,” Umeh said.
Umeh gave a pat on the back to Dr Ifeanyi Ubah
whose side is making waves in the Nigeria premier
league, even as he tipped the club to gain a continental
ticket this term.
“I see Anambra playing host to continental football
next term courtesy of Ifeany Ubah. By then he would
hopefully have completed his ultra modern sports
stadium in Nnewi.”
