‘The Royal Hibiscus Hotel’ premieres at Toronto International Film Festival

‘The Royal Hibiscus Hotel’, a Nigerian movie has premiered at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada.

Mo Abudu, Chief Executive Producer, EbonyLife Films and producer of the movie, said on her official instagram handle that ‘The Royal Hibiscus Hotel,’ was the only Nigerian movie that screened at the TIFF this year.

“We walked into the event with style. We were proud to be flying the Nigerian and Nollywood flag tonight,’’ she said.

“Our audiences simply loved The Royal Hibiscus Hotel. It was such an honour to be well received, she said.

The romantic comedy which is directed by Ishaya Bako, is about a disillusioned London chef visits Nigeria and struggles with her matchmaking mother and restoring the family’s rundown hotel.

She soon meets and falls in love with Deji a charming, successful entrepreneur whose secret plan could jeopardize not just their budding romance but the future of the Royal Hibiscus Hotel.

Notable among the cast actors are Zainab Balogun, Kenneth Okolie, Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju, Jide Kosoko, Rachel Oniga, Deyemi Okanlawon and Akah Nnani.

The Royal Hibiscus Hotel is the second EbonyLife film to have its world premiere at TIFF.

The first was ‘The Wedding Party’ in 2016, which was amongst eight Nigerians films screened at the festival.

A Nigerian release date has not been announced for the movie, ‘The Royal Hibiscus Hotel’.
