A suspected armed robber was, on Sunday morning, shot dead by men of the Ogun State police command at Ososa Junction along Sagamu- Ore-Benin Expressway.

In a statement signed by the police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was shot followed a distress call received by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) that robbers had blocked the expressway at about 2:30a.m and dispossessed commuters of their belongings.

Oyeyemi, an ASP, added that upon the receipt of the distress call, the officer-in-charge of FSARS in Ogun State, DSP Uba Adam, led his men to the scene where the robbers engaged them in gun duel which lasted for almost 45 minutes.

He stated further that at the end of the encounter, one of the robbers was shot dead while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

Weapons recovered from the suspected robbers were two locally made single barrelled guns and seventy eight live cartridges.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, who commended his men for the prompt response to the distress call, appealed to members of the public and hospitals to report anybody with gunshot wounds, to the police.
