FROM ROMANUS UGWU, ABUJA
THERE seems to be light at the end of the tunnel over the hiring of a substantive head coach for the Super Eagles as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finalised arrangements to formally resume the screening of applicants next week.
A very reliable source who made the disclosure to Daily Sunsports in Abuja, said that the decision was one of the recommendations made by the NFF technical Sub-committee after their meeting which lasted several hours on Tuesday to the Executive Committee of the football federation.
Asked whether the technical sub-committee recommended the skin colour of who becomes the substantive chief coach, our source said that the recruitment would be thrown open to all those that applied, warning that the screening would be open, transparent and thorough.
“I want to tell you that the technical sub-committee has not actually settled for who becomes the head coach but we have recommended to the executive committee to resume the screening anytime next week.” The technical committee did not recommend the colour skin of the kind of coach to be appointed.
“From the recommendations, the slot is thrown open to both local and foreign coaches. The screening is going to be very open, transparent and thorough. Every applicant must come and prove his mantle by impressing the screening panel.
“Any Nigerian coach who thinks he knows the job and possess the right credentials should appear before the panel to prove that. They will be drilled on the ethics of the profession which is the biggest problem we are encountering now.
“The committee has made it clear that coaches collecting money from players should not be considered. Let us get it right for the first time in hiring a coach we should be proud of and that can take the team to its desired height,” our source noted.
