SPAR Nigeria recently partnered with Kinabuti and other corporate bodies to put smiles on the faces of over 1,000 children in the Coker-Orile-Iganmu community of Lagos last December.
The Christmas party, with the theme, “1,000 Gifts for Kids at Orile,” on Friday, December 8, 2017, saw well over 1,000 children within nursery and primary school age treated to aerobics sessions, quizzes, dance competitions and games. In addition, free food and drinks provided by SPAR Nigeria, Pepsi and the other partners were served.
Kinabuti, one of the principal organisers, is an Afrocentric fashion brand. According to John Goldsmith, SPAR Nigeria’s spokesperson: “It has always been our culture to be a part of the initiative that brings happiness and gives a sense of belonging to the children of Orile-Iganmu. Being a hypermarket that is deeply interested in the people and their living communities, we consider the Kinabuti Christmas party a viable platform to share goods and provisions that will improve the lives of these precious children from low-income communities.”
Previously, funds generated from similar gigs by Kinabuti and partners had gone into renovating various schools within the Orile-Iganmu community. Schools benefitted by way of new doors, bathrooms, windows and furnishings.
The event, a successful year-end collaboration by corporate bodies, encouraged active inclusion of the young members of the society in the Yuletide celebration, irrespective of their financial or ethnic background.
The reporter gathered that SPAR Nigeria, one of the country’s major retail outlets, supports upcoming brands and organisations with initiatives that reach out to low-income communities.
