Troops of Operation Delta Safe (ODS) have rescued two kidnap victims in Bayelsa State.
The commander of ODS, Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, as part of the crackdown on criminal elements in the Niger Delta region, ordered the raid on criminal hideouts in Bayelsa State.
Suleiman, in a press briefing at the command’s headquarters yesterday, said ODS troops conducted successful operations in identified camps in Oluasiri and Agbidama, in Nembe and Ekeremor local government areas of the state, over the weekend.
He disclosed that during the operations, at Oluasiri, two victims were rescued from kidnappers, adding, however, that one of them sustained gunshot wounds during a shootout with the kidnappers.
The victim has been taken to a military hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for adequate treatment.
“Items recovered during the raids include one HK 21E rifle, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher, four AK 47 rifles, three pistols, 61 pieces of 12.7/108mm ammo, five empty rifle magazines, 36 pieces of 7.62mm ammo and 15 pieces of 9mm ammo, among other items.
“We wish to state that the Joint Task Force is resolved to ensure peaceful socio-economic environment for business to strive,” he said.
