• An  educationist urges graduating students to be leaders, not only of tomorrow, but of today

Totalight Schools, Oke Ota-Ona, Ikorodu, Lagos, recently held its valedictory and prize-giving day, the 12th since inception. The ceremony attended by Barr. J. Ade Adesina, Proprietor, Mrs. Ade Olayinka, the School Coordinator, Mr. Alawide B.O., Vice Principal 1, Mr. Odunola O.O., Vice Principal 2, Mr. J. Kodjo, Head Teacher, the primary and college teaching and non-teaching staff and Elder, E.A. Oluborode, P.T.A. chairman, beside the graduating and other students of the school, parents and invited guests, started with processional hymn, introduction of guests, opening prayer, national anthem/school anthem and a brief opening speech by the chairman of the occasion, Pastor Tijani S.O.

After that, there was recognition of the graduands, a welcome address by the proprietor, presentation of nursery graduands, school choir, a speech by Master Dosumu Gilbert, the outgoing head boy, followed by presentation of primary graduands, cultural group performance, presentation of junior school graduands, a speech by Adekoya Chinyere, the outgoing head girl and the school chaplain, presentation by the primary school session, presentation of senior school graduands, college choreography, performance by senior school graduands and pastoral blessing of the graduands.

The event, an activities-studded one, was rounded off by presentation of gifts and awards, vote of thanks and a closing prayer. Talking about awards, while Miss Adekoya. A. Chioma, won the principal’s award for 2016/2017 academic session, Master Olajuwon. O. Hammed won the Vice Principal’s award.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Adesina who expressed his happiness with the “remarkable impact” made by the school since inception in 2003, urged the graduating students to continue to tread the path of honour and to project themselves as good ambassadors of the school by keeping the fire burning. 

“You have been impacted with our core values, shine like the stars that you are, never allow any negative influence to corrupt your values,” he told them. He pointed out that they are not only the leaders of tomorrow but of today and always. “Remember that what has been impacted into you is not for school alone but for life.”
