The senate has read President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter extending his vacation after returning from recess.

Senate President Bukola Saraki read both letters on the floor of the upper house of legislator on Tuesday.

Acting president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has sent confirmation letter of acting chief justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen to the Senate.

In the letter, Acting President Osinbajo had requested that the Senate moved ahead with screening and consequent confirmation of Onnoghen as the country’s substantive chief justice.

Saraki also read two other letters. One is President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter dated Sunday, February 5, and requesting extension of his leave which was supposed to end that day.

The third letter Saraki read was the official confirmation of the defection of Senator Andy Uba from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in line with House rules.

The Senate, however, adjourned plenary early because of the death of a member of the House of Representatives, Bello Sani (APC, Katsina) last week.
