The police, in Lagos, on Wednesday, arraigned a 45-year-old sailor, Sunday Udoh, who allegedly illegally collected N79,500 from a job seeker and forged  certificates for him to secure a job in a ship.

Udoh, a resident of Mangoro in Agege, Lagos, is standing trial before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, forgery and obtaining money under false pretences.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, said that the accused collected the sum from Mr Kenneth Bernard with a promise to secure a job for him, but failed to do so.

Unah told the court that the sailor conspired with another man still at large to commit the offences in June at a National Filling Station, Agege.

He submitted that the accused forged the Maritime Academy of Nigeria certificate and the certificate of  Maritime University, Accra, with an intention to use them to secure the job.
“The accused collected the money and failed to get the complainant the job.
