Super Eagles and Arsenal forward, Alex Iwobi has withdrawn from the squad to face Cameroon in the two legs of the crucial Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers .
It was gathered that Iwobi, who has made two appearance for the Gunners this season, copped a thigh muscle injury in training, which will keep him out of action for at least two weeks.
To ensure that no vacuum is created, Coach Gernot Rohr has hurriedly recalled standby CSKA Moscow player, Aaron Samuel to join the rest of the squad in Uyo as a replacement for the injured Iwobi.
Also instructed to join up with the other 23 players listed for the Cameroon clash is Uche Agbo, who is on loan to Standard Liege from Watford.
A tweet on the official handle of the Nigeria Super Eagles read: “Just in: Aaron Samuel called in to replace injured Alex Iwobi. Uche Agbo also invited.”
Iwobi has been a mainstay in the Eagles squad since he made his debut for the team against DR Congo in an international friendly under former coach Sunday Oliseh in October 8, 2015.
The 21- year -old has made 11 international appearances for the three-time African champions with his only goal coming against Zambia in Nigeria’s 2-1 win in a World Cup qualifier away in Ndola on matchday 1.
The last time Samuel featured for the Super Eagles was under the late coach Stephen Keshi in 2014 in a 2-2 draw against South Africa in Uyo, where Eagles were denied the 2015 AFCON ticket.
The Eagles will host Cameroon on Friday, September 1in Uyo before heading to Yaounde for the second leg fixture on Monday, September 4.
