Nigeria yesterday succeeded in getting a club into the money spinning group stage of African club football as Rivers United joined top Congolese side TP Mazembe and 14 others in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United drew goalless away against Rayon Sports of Rwanda to land in the mini league stage on a 2-0 aggregate having won the first leg in Port Harcourt by that margin.
It would be noted that the Rivers-Rayon tie was offset by one week, with the other 15 ties completed last weekend.
The other teams in the group stage are CS Sfaxien, Zesco United, FUS Rabat, Smouha, Recreativo Libolo, MC Alger, CF Mounana, Horoya, Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, Al-Hilal, Al-Ubayyid, Mbabane Swallows, Club African and KCCA.
The group stage draw will be conducted at CAF’s Cairo headquarters on Wednesday April 26.
The other Nigerian teams in the continent, Rangers, Wikki Tourists and FC IfeanyiUbah had a poor run as they failed to go beyond the first round.
