•••As Christians dedicate state to God

From Chris Anucha, Port Harcourt

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, said he will not succumb to intimidation and blackmail by the opposition.

The governor said this at Saint Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Port Harcourt, capital of the state, during a thanksgiving and dedication service as part of activities marking Rivers State Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The non-denominational church service also attracted Muslim ummah in the state, who joined their Christian counterparts to pray for peace and prosperity of the state in the next 50 years and beyond.

Governor Wike, in his speech at the church service, condemned some former leaders in the state, who said there was nothing to celebrate about in the state’s 50 years of existence.

Rather, he said such leaders were uncomfortable that it is during his administration that the state is celebrating the golden jubilee.

“I concluded that they were not quarrelling with the celebration of 50 years. They are just not comfortable that I am the one in charge during the golden jubilee of Rivers state. There is nothing anyone can do about it and we give God the glory,” said Wike.
