Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff, on Thursday, declared his intention to run for the governorship position in the September 22 election in Osun State.
The lawmaker who made the declaration at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Osogbo, the state capital, said he was the most suitable candidate for the job.
Yusuff who expressed optimism to win the ticket during the primary and and would also coast to victory by beating the opposition party candidate during the election, enthused that the people of the state had been awaiting him to govern the state.
He promised to generate more employment opportunities in the state by leveraging on the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) legacy of Governor Rauf Aregbesola which he also promised to improve upon significantly.
He said he would ensure that the OYES scheme was backed by legislation in the state.
Yussuff also promised to engage in man power training in the education sector, embark on agriculture revolution and improve on the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the state.
“I am not fighting to be governor, but rather I want to be the governor because I have the experience and the exposure,” he said.
“The people of the state want me and waiting for me to rule them because I am the one the cap fits and I will not disappoint them,’’ Yussuff added.
The party chairman, Gboyega Famodun, said the aspirant had the political exposure and experience to govern the state.
Famodun, while urging the aspirant to play his politics with humility, urged him to heed both the public and private advice in his moves to emerge as the governor.
“If it is the will of God for you to be the governor, so be it, but one thing that is sure is that it is only one person that will pick the party’s ticket for the election,’’ Mr Famodun said.
Daily Sun gathered that 27 aspirants under the platform of APC had so far declared intention to contest the party’s primary election ahead of the gubernatorial election.
