Rangers poor run in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this term continued yesterday with a 1-2 away loss to Enyimba at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
With the defeat, the fate of the club’s tactician, Imama Amakapabo now hangs in the balance as he failed to win any of the three matches he was given the mandate to win or face sack.
The Christian Chukwu led management of the club had a fortnight ago handed Imama a three- match ultimatum. Imama’s three match ultimatum started with the game against Katsina United which Rangers lost by a lone goal. They returned home only to be held to a 1-1 draw at home by newcomers Remo Stars before yesterday’s fall to Enyimba.
Chukwu who spoke exclusively to Daily Sunsports last night said a decision would be taken on Imama when they get back home to the Coal City from Calabar.
“We have just finished the game against Enyimba. The boys did well even in defeat. We had a good game but didn’t get a result. We would meet when we get back to Enugu and come up with a decision on coach Imama. He has not delivered in the last three games and as you know in football a coach takes the credit when his team is doing well and he also takes the blame when things are not going well.”
It would be noted that Rivers United that last season finished runners up behind Rangers are not also doing well. The Port Harcourt side last week suspended their coach Stanley Eguma for just one game which they lost yesterday as they were beaten one nil in the game against Gombe United.
Both Rangers and Rivers United have since crashed out of the CAF Champions League. They would now continue their continental campaign in the less fancied CAF Confederations Cup. The Flying Antelopes are to face top Zambian side Zesco United while Rivers United would battle Rwandan side RayonSports. Winners of the matches would land in the group stage of the competition.
