Protesters for and against Muhammad Abubakar, governor of Bauchi State, clashed at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat on yesterday.
The protesters against the governor are believed to be for the caucus led by Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the House of Representatives and the state assembly.
On Friday, the speaker and other Bauchi federal lawmakers comprising both the upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly had petitioned Chief John  Odigie Oyegun, national chairman, over the inability of the governor to pay salaries.
Trouble started when supporters of the federal lawmakers learnt that the party’s executives from Bauchi were at the secretariat for a meeting with the APC national leadership.
One of the supporters of the governor screamed: “Barrister (Abubakar) is trying, we want Barrister to continue walahi. Sai Barrister.”
On the other hand, one Galadima Abba Ittas, who said they did not want the governor, added: “The Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has failed; he cannot pay salaries of workers and is unable to pay pensioners.
“Most of his appointments are PDP members while the APC appointees are been removed. We are calling on the national leadership to act fast by intervening in order to save Bauchi state.”
