From: Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

The Presidency has confirmed that Yusuf Buhari, the son of President Muhammadu Buhari, had a motorbike accident, on Tuesday night, around Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory, in Abuja.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who confirm e the accident in a statement, said Yusuf “broke a limb and had an injury to the head as a result. He has undergone surgery at a clinic in Abuja. He is in a stable condition.

“The President and his wife, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, are thankful to Nigerians for the good wishes and prayers for their son.

An online medium had  reported that the crash occurred when Yusuf was racing with a friend in the capital city.

“Yusuf was trying to overtake his friend when he suddenly veered off the road and skidded. He lay there unconscious for a while before the first lady was alerted,” the medium quoted a family source who preferred anonymity.

The source also said First Lady was “ordered that he be immediately rushed to Cedarcrest Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. We are more concerned about the head injury than the fractures. As I speak to you, Yusuf is unconscious.

“An air ambulance may take him out of the country any moment.”

Yusuf and his sister Zarah last July graduated from  University of Surrey, Guildford, England.
