Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev.Tor Uja, has encouraged Christians to develop interest in pilgrimage instead of leaving it to the elite Christians alone.
Though, he acknowledged the fact that the cost might be high for some people, but asked church leaders to encourage their members to deny themselves certain pleasures to raise fund for the spiritual exercise.
He was addressing members of Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship International-Nigeria (FGBMFI) in Abuja, at the weekend, saying he was unhappy that Christians shifted pilgrimage to Christian elites, forgetting that they ought to have the life time experience too.
He said that FGBMFI as a fellowship that had brought all churches together to communicate with God should be in the vanguard of the campaign for increased participation in pilgrimage.
He said: “NCPC, undoubtedly, has offered a good platform for the church leaders to rally together and collectively brainstorm on ways to promote the kingdom of God, both in Nigeria and globally.
“It is also important for the church leaders to have pilgrimage experience. It is an amazing place where they could gather, have time to pray, discuss and understand the fabrics of the gospel, so they could be in an informed position to educate their followers better.”
He suggested that FGBMFI being a strong inter-denominational organization should be used to educate and mobilize Christians for the spiritual exercise.
