The police siege of Wadata Plaza, national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Abuja entered its second day yesterday.

The workers were again prevented from gaining entry to the building.

No member of the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led national working committee, which had since been dissolved but has vowed to continue in office, was sighted near the party secretariat.

Daily Sun however gathered that the former Borno state governor and few members of the dissolved NWC still loyal to him met again at his residence.

A party source revealed that Senator Sheriff at the end of the meeting left for Lagos for another meeting with a serving senator from the south-west ahead of a suit to challenge the dissolution of his national working committee by the highest organ of the party, the national convention.

Members of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led caretaker committee also had their inaugural meeting in Abuja. Daily Sun further gathered that the Senator Makarfi team were planning to open discussion with the Concerned PDP Stakeholders under the leadership of former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu and former Education Minister, Tunde Adeniran.

The motive, according to Daily Sun source privy to the meeting “is to ensure that they come together to neutralize whatever threat Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and remnants of his supporters pose to the survival of the party.”

Daily Sun source further revealed that the Senator Mantu group are favourably disposed to the trouble shooting initiative of the Senator Makarfi caretaker committee.

“Don’t forget that Senator Makarfi was a member of the Concerned PDP Stakeholders at its formative stage. They know him as a bridge builder and they have tremendous respect for him. Senator Mantu and his team are anxious to meet with him.”

The Senator Mantu group had at the weekend disclosed that they would open to discussion with the caretaker committee put in place at the weekend at the convention held in Port Harcourt.

Speaking with newsmen at the weekend, Senator Mantu expressed satisfaction with the dissolution of the PDP NWC under the leadership of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, but noted that the convention should have allowed the Board of Trustees administer the party, pending the conduct of another convention.
