The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its Reconciliation Committee and other standing committees to pave way for the constitution of new committees.

Regardless, Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Serieke Dickson, has pledged his support to the party’s National Caretaker Committee. He made the pledge when he visited the chairman of the committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, in Abuja, on Wednesday night.

Speaking during the visit, the Bayelsa governor, who until recently was the chairman of the PDP reconciliation committee, thanked the party’s leader for the opportunity given to him and members of his committee to serve.

Dickson said following the judgment of the Supreme Court on the PDP leadership crisis, he had proposed to Makarfi to dissolve his committee so that a new one would be constituted to add fresh impetus in the task of conflict resolution in the party.

The governor, who was accompanied by other members of the defunct reconciliation committee on the visit, added that “all of us are believers in our party and we are available to serve our party in any way deemed fit in future.”

While calling on all stakeholders in the PDP to support the caretaker committee to organise a unity convention within the shortest possible, Dickson admonished the committee to pursue genuine reconciliation within the party.  He said it is only when there is genuine reconciliation that the opposition party can regain its lost glory.

“Now that the Supreme Court and the judiciary have done their job, it is now the business of party leaders under your leadership to build a united strong party that will be the horse that warriors would ride to political battles and win.’’

On his part, Makarfi reiterated his committment to reconcile all interest groups within the PDP and noted that was why he declared that there were no victors or vanquished in the party crisis.

The PDP chairman added that all those who tried to pull the party down in the recent past have been forgiven.

He warned that, henceforth, the PDP will severely punish any of its members who engages in anti-party activities.

Makarfi thanked Dickson and members of his committee for the service to the party.
