All is now set for the 2nd edition WESIE, Southeast & AMK 2017 Basketball Tournament billed for the city of owerri from the 30th of August to the 3rd Of September 2017.

Further to 2016’s successful collaboration between WESIE, Southeast Basketball & the AMK Foundation which involved 10 female teams converging in Enugu, the three organisations has come together again in an expanded tournament to include 17 teams. The expanded edition will take place in Owerri and will include 12 female teams and 5 male teams at the Imo State trade and investment center.

The Men’s category will be contested only by the South East teams whilst Benue and Bayelsa will join other teams in the South-South and South East to compete in the female category.

A breakdown of teams expected to be part of the weeklong event are as follows:- from the South East Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra and Imo the host state.

Teams from South-South expected at the championship are Bayelsa who were not at the last edition, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Cross River.   Teams are expected to take care of their transportation to and from, feeding and accommodation and only 4 elite players (league) are allowed in each team.

According to the tournament coordinator Osondu Ngwude this year’s edition will see players wining close to 2.5 million naira in cash and other gift items that has been made available by the organisers.

“This year will be so different because the organisers have come together and will be giving out incentives ranging from cash and various gifts to the turn of N2.5million which is an improvement from last year’s edition”.
