Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu has described as ridiculous, insinuations that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is being held hostage and being compelled to resign.

Ojudu said Osinbajo not only presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, but held several meetings thereafter.

A What’sapp message being circulated titled: “Another political confusion in Nigeria”, claimed that a purported governors’ meeting in Aso Villa had directed all governors on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) to prevail on all other governors to compel Osinbajo to resign his position as acting president and pave way for Senate President, Bukola Saraki, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the National Assembly on his vacation and also, for medical check up in London, in the United Kingdom.

But, Ojudu said in a statement, yesterday, that, he has “read many ridiculous stories, saying the vice president is being held hostage by some governors who are trying to compel him to resign.

“I equally received several calls regarding this. The story is simply not true. It is a fabrication. Don’t be purveyor of fake news .

Meanwhile,  Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has distanced himself from plots to make him acting president. In a statement by his Media Adviser, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki said: “My attention has been drawn to speculations about supposed meeting of some governors who sought for Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to take over the Presidency.

“My first initial reaction was to ignore this empty rumour but, after being inundated with calls from across the country and abroad, it became necessary for me to make clarifications from our own end.

“It is a good thing that the Presidency had dismissed the speculation and showed that there is no substance to it. However, I feel it should be known that those behind this baseless, empty and unintelligent mischief are those who do not love this country.”
