The residents of the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra state have lauded the security strategy of Governor Willie Obiano and the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okula for the clampdown on crimes and criminals in the area.

They noted that crime has reduced drastically within the three years Obiano has been on the seat compared to what was obtainable in the past, when Onitsha and its environs were safe haven for criminals and criminal activities.

The traditional prime minister of Awkuzu, Chief Mike Ozua Okoye who spoke with Sunday Sun on the security of lives and property in Onitsha, Nkpor, Obosi and Ogidi said that people now sleep with their two eyes closed without any fear of either kidnap and armed robbery act.

He commended the governor for checkmating crime in the entire state, saying that the introduction of patrol motorcycles, facilitated by the motorcycles distributed by governor to various police divisions, has helped in crime control especially during the last festive period.

Okoye noted that the commissioner of police and divisional police officers in Onitsha have been up and doing in curbing crime, saying that it was only in Onitsha area that DPOs move day and night to checkmate crimes and ensure that any criminal arrested are prosecuted without delay.

“I must commend Obiano for security in the state. Since 1999 till date, no time is Anambra state is as safe as it is now courtesy of the governor who provided adequate logistics and security gadgets for the police to do their job knowing full well that police cannot operate without utility vehicles and other supports.”

“In this place before now, crime was celebrated because they were moving from house to house either to rob or to kidnap, they blocked major roads several times but today everywhere is calm and many people returned home during the last Yuletide without any kidnapping and robbery act. I must give governor Obiano kudos for that and he deserves second tenure to continue with this,” Okoye stated.

Also the President of Bridgehead Onitsha, Mr. Sunday Obinze said that before the coming of governor Obiano, Onitsha was beehive of criminals especially Upper Iweka and bridgehead areas, stressing that traders were always afraid of what would happen next.

He described governor Obiano as gift to the state through his developmental strides, empowering of every community with N20 million for project as well as exportation of agricultural produces, payment of workers’ salary and lighting of the state.
