One  person was feared dead,  while many people were  Iinjured as security agents foiled attempt by suspected militants to disrupt the All Progressive Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
The armed attack on the  Bayelsa secretariat led by an ex-militant loyal to a faction of the party was repelled by a combined team of armed policemen, DSS operatives and soldiers.
A middle aged man  whose lifeless body was found at Bay-Bridge junction by the police was said to have been hit by the militants bullets when trying to run away.
The heavy shooting has forced banks and other businesses in the area to close,  while a reinforcement of security agents has been deployed to the secretariat
Speaking on the development, the member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Isreal Sunny-Igoli, expressed concern at the development and accused an expelled chairman, and an ex-militant leader of being responsible for the failed attack.
According to him, ” the APC members cannot be intimidated in Bayelsa State. We know and we believe that the party is on the part of rebuilding and enthronement of  peace within its fold. The sponsors of the attack will be punished.”
