A 36-year-old man and member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate, otherwise known as ‘one chance,’ who specialsed in taking passengers to unknown destinations and robbing them, has landed in police net.

The suspect, Anthony Chukwueke, who operates a commercial taxi, which he used as bait to catch his victims, was arrested after he and two of his accomplices robbed one Maryam Okon, who boarded his taxi from Area 3 to Mpape, in Abuja, of N200,000.

The police told Daily Sun that two of the suspects, now at large, along with Chukwueke, had engaged their victim upon boarding the taxi, saying they had huge sums of American dollars in their possession that needed to be changed, after she was allegedly hypnotised.

According to the police, the suspect, who operated with a Mazda 323 vehicle with registration number XE 425 GWA, was arrested after Okon raised the alarm, which attracted passers-by to the scene. The suspect was subsequently arrested, while two others escaped.

Public relations officer in charge of the FCT Police Command, Usen Omorodion, in confirming the arrest, warned residents of Abuja to be security-conscious while boarding commercial vehicles and avoid getting into conversations with strangers.

The PPRO, who said the suspect had since been charged to the Karmo Area Court, however, pointed out that he was being remanded in police custody to assist in investigation and possiblly arrest other members of the gang now on the run.
