Omeruo: I won’t sit on Chelsea bench

Nigerian defender, Kenneth Omeruo has told SCORE Nigeria he would rather go out again on loan than sit on the bench at Premier League champions, Chelsea in the new season.
Omeruo, 23, had completed a season-long loan spell at Turkish club Alanyaspor and would be part of Chelsea pre-season training next month.
The central defender, who signed for Chelsea in 2012, had not played for ‘The Blues’ as he had been shipped out on loan at ADO Den Haag of Holland (2012-2013), Middlesbrough of England (2014-2015), Kasimpasa of Turkey (2015-2016) and Alanyaspor also of Turkey in 2016-2017.
“For now, I’m a Chelsea player”, Omeruo told Scorenigeria.com.ng in Lagos.
“I’ve only been out on loan. Now that my loan period at Alanyaspor is over, I will be returning to Chelsea for our pre season.
“No decision has been made if I’m still going out on loan or staying at Chelsea.
“The important thing for me is that I’m still playing regularly.
“If I will have to stay at Chelsea and not be playing games, then I won’t stay, that is it for now”.
Omeruo enjoyed a good season at the Turkish Super Lig side, with 24 appearances, which helped the side retain their top league status.
The defender attributed his good run in Turkey to the support of the fans of the club and arrival of a new coach.
“First and foremost, playing in Turkey is good because the fans always stand behind the team with their support,” he told SCORENigeria
“I was playing regularly in every game. Then we had a new coach who worked towards the objective of the club, which was to avoid relegation and retain the club’s top league status.
“At the end, this objective was achieved which is a success for the club.
“Personally, it was a particularly good season for me because I did not sustain any serious injury and at the same time played a lot of games as well”.
Omeruo hinted despite having spent five seasons on the payroll of the English Premier League side without playing a part in their huge successes, he was all the same happy with the team and the players for their successes.
“It’s not something one should blow off his head for,” he said.
“We’re many out there on loan and when it’s time, it really will be time for us.
“I feel very happy for the title because it’s my club. When they win, it’s also good for me as well but like I said, it’s all about me working hard and waiting for the opportunity”.
