Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area in Lagos State will hold an Igbo colloquium and award ceremony on Saturday.
The programmme will hold under the chairmanship of Chief Ben Amuta.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the corporate head office of The Sun Publishing Limited, chairman of Imeobi (Inner Caucus) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin, Chief Ben Chinaemelu, said the programme, among other things, was organised to reflect on the activities and achievements of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Amuwo in the last 18 years of its formation.
He explained that the programme would provide an opportunity to honour some Igbo personalities and organisations that have done well in developing and protecting Igbo interests in all ramifications.
Chinaemelu said issue of peace, love and unity among the Igbo and the entire Nigeria would be discussed at the colloquium, which is expected to be attended by prominent Igbo personalities within and outside Lagos State, who, in turn, would be given certificates of award and Chieftaincy titles.
“The major highlights of the programme is for us to discuss the need for peace, unity and love among Ndigbo. We will also give awards to some Igbo personalities and organisations who have contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria,” he said.
Those to be honoured include; Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Chief Executive Officer of Young Shall Grow Motors, Chief Vincent Obianodo, Austin Ken, Chief Okey Ezeibe, Chief Emma Bishop Okonkwo, President Aka Ikenga and Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Charles Odunukwe and Editor, Daily Sun, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh.
“We will soon celebrate 20 years of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin, but we want to do this now to recognise those who are doing well at the moment, because honour is given to whom it is due,” he said.
Speaking on The Sun, Chinaemelu said: “The Sun had become a force to be reckoned with in Nigeria. The newspaper has done well. In fact, we commend The Sun for what it has done to change the face of journalism and newspaper industry. We are proud of the newspaper.”
Chairman of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Chief Emmanuel Chukwuakalika Mmadu, on his part, said others to be given awards are member representing Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Emmanuel Oghene Egoh, member representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Dipo Oloruniru and his Constituency II counterpart, Hakeem Bello.
