THE Ogun State Police Command has arrested over 250 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists, murderers, 20 recovered cars and 90 arms and ammunition in various operations. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, told Daily Sun that the command made the arrests in various locations.
He said the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was re-organised to meet the current challenges and the operatives arrested 50 suspected armed robbers and recovered of arms and ammunition, which were abandoned during an operation: “It was during the process that we recovered the stolen cars which they to operate but abandoned during stop-and-search and they ran into the bush. Thirty suspected kidnappers were arrested and 10 victims rescued.
“We arrested over 100 suspected cult members in various institutions during initiations. Dangerous weapons were recovered from them. The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), interrogated them, and we immediately charged them to court.”
Ali stated that the command raided the black spots: “We have flushed out criminals out of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ijebu-Ode Expressway, Sango-Ota/Lagos Expressway. We had several encounters with armed robbers who attempted to rob passengers.
“The state government is giving us support with operational vehicles. This has helped in carrying out our duties. We have not experienced any bank robbery. Our officers and operational vehicles are everywhere to checkmate hoodlums from other states.
“The command held a stakeholders’ meeting over the Fulani herdsmen for peace to reign. We discussed how to monitor strange faces. We are applying the IGP Solomon Arase’s vision and mission on community policing. The public and the police will be working together to have peace in the state.”
