Two suspected members of an armed robbery gang, who allegedly shot and injured the Divisional Police Officer of Ogbere Division, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, CSP Adeyinka Akingbade, have been arrested by the operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

This was disclosed to the Daily Sun by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

Recall that CSP Akingbade had received a distress call,  early Wednesday morning, that some armed robbers had stormed a hotel in Itele-Ijebu, led his men to the scene but was ambushed and shot severely at close range by the robbers.

On receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police in the state,  Ahmed Iliyasu, gave a marching order to the officer in charge FSARS, DSP Uba Adam, to fish out the hoodlums within 24 hours.

The FSARS team swung into action immediately and their effort paid off after later on Wednesday, when the hideout of the robbers was located.

On sighting the policemen, the robbers engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for about an hour and at the end of the encounter, two of the robbers, Wasiu Ganiyu and Azeez Komolafe were arrested.

Meanwhile, the leader of the gang simply known as ‘Mungo Park’ was shot dead, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

The police also recovered two AK47 riffles with 120 rounds of ammunition from the suspected robbers.

CP Iliyasu, who commended the efforts men and officers of the FSARS, however, appealed to members of the public, especially people working at hospitals, to report anybody seen with gunshot wound to the police.

Iliyasu, also expressed hope for the quick recovery of the DPO, who he described as one of the best performing DPOs in the command
