About 23 persons, suspected to be members of a dreaded cult group, have been arrested by the police in Ogun State. 

The cultists were arrested on Wednesday while about commencing initiation process at Ilaporu, Awa-Ijebu, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, yesterday, said the cultists had converged on the town from other towns, including Ijebu-Igbo, Ago-Iwoye and Oru-Ijebu, for new members’ initiation and later unleash terror on the residents of Ilaporu, as a sign of admitting the new members.

Oyeyemi said as soon as they assembled at the location, policemen attached to Awa-Ijebu Division, through technical intelligence, got wind of the unlawful assembly, consequent upon which the DPO of Awa-Ijebu, Olu Monday, led his anti-robbery team to the scene and arrested the 23 suspects.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Anti-Cultist and Anti-Kidnapping Section for proper investigation and prosecution.
