Ogun State government has said its agriculture sector will receive more attention than any other sector in the state in 2018.
The state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stated this at the treasury board meeting on the 2018 budget held at the Obas Complex, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
As a testimony to this, Amosun said the Ministry of Agriculture will receive huge budget proposal in the state’s 2018 budget estimates, adding that agriculture will define government activities next year.
According to him, agriculture has shown with all its value chains that it can provide employment, eradicate poverty and above all lead to economic diversification and industrialisation of the state.
Amosun, therefore, thanked the state’s Team Agric for showing and displaying “Ogun Standard” in all their activities, adding that more is expected from the team led by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo, next year.
In her response, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adebajo, thanked the state government for its commitment to agriculture, saying the sector is capable of diversifying Nigeria’s economy from its mono-economy.
She reiterated that the state government is not only resolved to increase agricultural production but also to ensure food security in the state, South-West and the entire nation.
