Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, commissioned a 1,500- sitting capacity International Conference Centre in Sokoto, the state capital.

The edifice project, which was awarded by the immediate past administration was constructed at the cost of over N428 million by Sokoto State Government.

Speaking at the commissioning, the former president said commended the governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, for established a project that would be of benefit to humanity.

He said that the center would be an added value to tourism development in the state, saying visitors who may come for event purposes would be attracted to its state-of-the-art-facilities.

“Sokoto is a state with unique history and I believe this project will be a multipurpose value to the state. It will also serve any tourist visiting the state.”

Earlier in his remarks, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Muhammad Abubakar III, applauded Governor Tambuwal for completing a project by his predecessor.

Also speaking, Governor Tambuwal explained that his administration had attached much importance to the project despite it was initiated by the previous government.

The governor noted that the edifice center which is projected to be a revenue drive for the state government would be provided with that facilities that include Golf Course and four-star hotel for tourism purpose.

During the facility-tour, the project Contractor and Managing Director of Diamond Global Energy Investment Ltd, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, said that the centre consisted of smaller conference rooms, VIP lounges, rest and changing rooms, a mosque, restaurant, among other facilities.
