As 2,145 2017 Batch ‘B’ corps members deployed to Kaduna State for the one year mandatory service complete the 21-day orientation course and posted to their various places of primary assignment, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has told them to be security conscious at all times.

But Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has assured them of their security wherever they may be posted to within the state, urging them to accept their posting in good faith.

Addressing the corps members during the official closing ceremony of the batch in Kaduna on Monday, the Coordinator of the scheme in the State, Alhaji Mohammed Dahunsi told the corps members to interact freely with their host communities, study their culture and tradition and respect same.

He also asked them to be modest, wise humble and do everything possible to avoid arguments that could trigger violence.

According to Dahunsi, “Be security conscious at all times and stay far away from local and communal politics.

“Identify with areas of need of your host communities and come up with strategies of ameliorating their suffering by initiating and executing meaningful community development projects”, he said.

Declaring the orientation for the batch closed, the governor, who was represented by his Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, Daniel Dan Aura said, the state government and security agencies were prepared to ensure the security of lives and property of corps members across the 23 local government areas of the state.

According to the Governor el-Rufai, “We in Kaduna State are ready to support the scheme to ensure full realisation of its set goals and objectives.

“This is a trying period for all of us in Nigeria. It is a period we cannot refuse to draw on the strength of collective positive thinking and action.

“While at your places of primary assignment, join hands with the government to ensure a violent-free and peaceful society. The nation places on you high expectation and I pray you will not let us down.

“I want to assure you that you are safe in any part of the state you are posted to serve. The government will continue to identify and reward those of you who perform excellently well at the end of the service year”, the governor stated.

He, however, promised to step up phase by phase renovation of dilapidated facilities on the permanent orientation camp to provide more conducive environment to induct successful batches of corps members.
