THE proposed May 4 kick-off date for the Nigeria National League (NNL) may not be realistic after all, should the club owners and managers make good their threat to boycott the league.

The Seyi Akiwunmi-led committee set up by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had after a stakeholders meeting held in Abuja last month fixed May 4, 2016 as kick-off date for the second tier of the Nigeria league.

However, few days to the commencement date, some of the stakeholders especially the club owners had told Daily Sunsports in confidence that the date will not be realistic because the football federation has not resolved the lingering issue of who oversees the administration of the league.

“Whoever tells you that the May 4 kick-off date is sacrosanct must be economical with the truth.

The last resolution of the club owners and managers was that the football federation must allow them to elect their leaders or call it a governing board to oversee the league this season.

“The season cannot start this weekend because we have uncovered plans by the committee NFF set up to resolve issues concerning the league trying to go beyond the assignment given to them.”
