The legal team representing the convicted former Governor of Adamawa State Barrister Bala James Ngilari, has refuted reports that the former governor was granted bail based on false prison medical report presented in court.

The team described the report as ‘erroneous’.

The position was made known to newsmen, on Tuesday,  by the legal team to the former governor, led by Barrister Obed Wadzini, in Yola.

Barrister Wadzani said, “The said letter from prison only explained that Ngilari’s blood pressure was up and that he could not appear in court for the hearing.

“Our legal team presented several other documents including his medical records from hospitals in Dubai and India that convinced the court to grant him bail. It is therefore erroneous to say that Ngilari was granted bail based on a letter from the prison.”

He said, “During the court proceedings, the EFCC could not make available competent medical personnel to refute the medical records we presented, so the court ruled in our favour.”

On the question of whether Ngilari is still in the prison or at home since he comptroller of Yola prison said his client will not be released until it consults with its legal team in Abuja Barrister

According to him,  “The court has ruled in their favour and that his client has been granted bail. The medical records we presented are public records and it can be verified. We don’t speak for the prison, but our records with the courts and can be looked into and verified.”

Responding to comments attributed to the office of the Attorney General of Adamawa state describing the judgment as a ‘black market’ judgment, Wadzani said, “The comment is entirely the opinion of the honorable Attorney General of the state.”
