Why Boko Haram targets Lagos

More facts emerged yesterday on the plot by Boko Haram to bomb Lagos. The main reason for the planned attack on Lagos, the “commercial nerve centre of Nigeria,” is its booming economy. The motive is simple: Attack Lagos and Nigeria grinds to a halt. One of the service chiefs reportedly confirmed at the Executive Session held with the Senate last Wednesday on the state of insecurity in the country that the threat to bomb Lagos was real.

He listed five reasons for the plot. The sect, it was gathered, reckons that the economy of the North is already in ruins with the incessant bombing of its major commercial cities including Kano, Kaduna and Maiduguri in Borno State. Kano is no longer the thriving commercial nerve centre of the North, while the Joint Task Force (JTF) occupies every 10 kilometres in Maiduguri, making commercial activities difficult.

Kaduna is also worse off as some bombings have shattered the peace and trust which hitherto existed among the different tribes in the city. The spate of bombings, they argued, has almost crippled commercial activities in the North as investors no longer look towards that region. Moreover, it was assumed that it would take more than 50 years for the North to bounce back economically.

While the bombings have heightened insecurity in the region, the economy of the South, symbolized by Lagos State, continues to boom. To ensure “balance,” the sect reckons that the South should also “taste and feel what is happening in the North. A National Assembly source told Daily Sun that the only target in the South is Lagos State which is believed to be the “honey pot of Nigeria. Bomb Lagos and the economy of the entire South would collapse.”

Recall that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Sa’ad Ola Ibrahim, Lt. Gen Azubuike Ihejirika (Army), Vice Admiral Ezeoba Dele (Navy), Air Marshal Alex Badeh (Air Force), and Mr. Ita Ekpeyong of the Department of State Security (DSS), took turns to brief the Senate behind closed doors last Wednesday.

The meeting lasted five and a half hours after which the Senate urged the security agencies to do more in addressing the spate of insecurity in the country. Senate reportedly convened the meeting with the service chiefs after some members suspected to be members of Boko Haram were arrested in Lagos.

Also recall that the DSS had late last month and with the co-operation of the military, arrested a Chadian suspect with two AK 47 rifles and suspected Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The arrest also led to the rounding up and deportation of about 100 aliens.

If boko haram ever hit lagos,u wont see hausa and fulani people there again for a forseeable future.the immediate response that yoruba people will give to northerner in lagos ‘ll determine weather they restart bombing or not.But I can tell that other southerners especially igbos wont leave cos lagos’ll become like kano.
If they want to start the dismembering of the amalgamated entity of north/south protectorate, they should start the bombing.Infact I can’t wait to see hausa/fulani people being chased from one street to the other just as they always do to my people in north.I’ll love to see them enjoy the fruit of their labour, taste the soup they’ve prepared for others. If yoruba people fail to react and very fast, then southwest is doomed just like north.
Ok it maybe a unique oppottunity for ndigbo to develop their own region for good.Maybe God is already fighting the battle for igbos by turning their enemies against themselves.

How I wish this could be so, that Igbo will take this opportunity to develope their own nation. What I see on ground unfortunately does not seem to point towards that direction as Igbo at the moment are far from being united. Not that they have ever united even during the civil war, remember that great Zik of late memory was on the other side of divide while the war lasted.
When remarkable and visionary politicians are aligning and realigning our Igbo politicians are standing akimbo as if to say where do I come in or better still asking whether they are part of the game at all even when they have been invited.
What we see is that they continue to cry marginalization and shouting to be considered for the next presidency even when the ship of party they hope to use is evidently fast sinking daily. Yet Igbos have remained on the same spot watching and crying all at the same time. What this mean in a simple language is that these people loves to live in the past experience. They jump into the bus-stop that others have vacated several years back.
Now is the time for them to wake up and face reality. This bitter truth may be difficult to swallow, but if they eventually reason with me, they will be the one to laugh last. I do not intend to insult these great people but the truth must be told for all us to learn from so we can together move forward. Igbo kuenu!

Kalu when u are insulting terrorists please keep muslims out of it. Can’t your stupid brain breakdown this matter ? Boko Haram is simply the militant arm of PDP. They now see ACN , CPC , ANPP and APGA coming together them all of a sudden there is Boko Haram in Lagos! Think bro! All they want is for nobody to oppose PDP! How else should the economy of the north be targeted if not for a southern political agender. Now they want to scare off the ACN yorubas from merging with the north to save Nigeria. One thing is for sure, no one kills and go without punishment.

Lagos in particular and south-west in general, south-East and south-south are no going areas for the boko haram sect, if they try it, they will pack their sheet with their own hands. As time goes on, even in some parts of the north, boko haram activities of boko haram shall soon end, because what has a beginning, surely have an end, INSHA-ALLAHU.

  15. osy April 3, 2013 at 11:44 am

i want to state clearer that the sponsor of boko haram will allow them to bowmb lagos but if they allow them then nija will be divided immediately but they cannot.

gaddafi said it all that nija should diivide south and north but some elements said that he should be crucified but he said the truth hausa fulani do not want united nija again but why can we allow them to go their way?

it’s only a matter of time, North will re-enter Stone Age

  18. marol April 3, 2013 at 4:13 pm

Thank God that the plans of the Boko Haram for largos was foiled again. The game is gradually extending beyond its bounds , care should be taken not to allow what has over taken the north to stretch to the south because it will be catastrophic. I once said on this medium of public opinion, that those northerners who have been supporting and sponsoring the Boko Harams and are instigating them to move their operations southwards, should realize that no body has the monopoly of the knowledge of killing, it is just a question of targeting of any mallam any where and hacking him to death. Boko- ham and their sponsors should take note.

It is because every one is keeping quiet when hit by these idiots that is why they are continuing these evil acts. If only others learn how to hit back, no one will tell them before they stop on their own. There are places in the north they dare not touch because they know the repercussions. They have tried in the past and the results were not palatable for them. My advice;’ hit them harder when they come near you”. When they hit them recently at Wukari in Taraba state, you saw how their sponsors came out to speak for them. If it were the other way round, you will not hear their voices. Lagosians, over to you. If you will allow them to destroy your land as they did theirs, it’s left for you.

  21. fortunatus April 3, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Lagos is centre of excellency, if boko finally get way to Lagos everybody will be touched. I pray Government and the people in Lagos should not allow such to happen. instead let them chase every Hausa out of Lagos before it will be late.

  22. jahili April 3, 2013 at 10:23 pm

Business and commerce is in our gene, when anyone decides that Igbo is the problem, then they are in reality asking for economic kwasiokor. It will take them 50yrs to rebuild what they have destroyed. Igbos lost billions of their hard investment in the North because of envy, nothing more. The North eat, and breadth religion, Igbos are simply business minded. Igbos, like their Jewish brethren knows the bolts and nuts of business. They control the main street economy of nigeria. Money is made in the main streets (markets) thru trade and commerce. Afterwords, the money is deposited in the banks, which is the Wall
Street or Broad Street in the case of nija. You cripple commerce activities, you cripple everything.! The point is that unless they repay Igbos for lives lost, and billions of investments lost, we are not coming back. Boko Harams, almagiri, Chadians and nigeriens can have a field day up there in the North.
Mazi (Mr), David Obi, no disrespect intended, but can you see why you are the odd man out?, you are the only chief among all commentators. Is it a case of ‘complex’ or what? Why do you need that title in your comment.? In actualitly, no one cares about your title. Do something about it next time. Would you?

    What Qur’an Teaches:
Quran tells us to: “not to make friends with Jews and Christians” (5:51), fight them “until they pay the Jizya (a penalty tax for the non-Muslims living under Islamic rules) with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued” ( 9:29). “kill the disbelievers wherever we find them” (2:191), “murder them and treat them harshly” (9:123), “fight and slay the Pagans, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem” ( 9:5).
Quran says that all those who disbelieve in Islam go to hell (5:10), they are najis (filthy, untouchable, impure) (9:28), and orders us to fight the unbelievers until no other religion except Islam is left (2:193). It prohibits a Muslim to befriend a non-believer even if that non-believer is the father or the brother of that Muslim (9:23), (3:28).
It says that the “non-believers will go to hell and will drink boiling water” (14:17). It asks the Muslims to “slay or crucify or cut the hands and feet of the unbelievers, that they be expelled from the land with disgrace and that they shall have great punishment in the world hereafter” (5:34). And tells us that “for them (the unbelievers) garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skin shall be dissolved and they will be punished with hooked iron rods” (22:19-22) and that they not only will have “disgrace in this life, on the Day of Judgment He shall make them taste the Penalty of burning (Fire)” (22:9).
Quran says that “those who invoke a god other than Allah not only should meet punishment in this world but the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to them, and they will dwell therein in ignominy” (25:68). For those who “believe not in Allah and His Messenger, He has prepared, for those who reject Allah, a Blazing Fire!” (48:13).
As for him who does not believe in Islam the Prophet says that after he dies it will be announced with a “stern command”: “Seize ye him, and bind ye him, And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! So no friend hath he here this Day. Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, Which none do eat but those in sin.” (69:30-37)
The holy Prophet prescribes fighting for us and tells us that “it is good for us even if we dislike it” (2:216). Then he advises us to “strike off the heads of the disbelievers”; and after making a “wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives” (47:4). Our God has promised to “instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers” and has ordered us to “smite above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them” (8:12). and “to strike terror into (the hearts of the enemies” (8:60).
He has made the Jihad mandatory and warns us that “Unless we go forth, (for Jihad) He will punish us with a grievous penalty, and put others in our place” (9:39). Allah speaks to our Holy Prophet and says “O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be stern against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge indeed” (9:73).
He promises us that in the fight for His cause whether we slay or are slain we return to the garden of Paradise (9:111). In Paradise he will “wed us with Houris (celestial virgins) pure beautiful ones” (56:54), and unite us with large-eyed beautiful ones while we recline on our thrones set in lines (56:20). There we are promised to eat and drink pleasantly for what we did (56:19). And have sex with “boys like hidden pearls” (56:24) and “youth never altering in age like scattered pearls” (76:19)
As you see, Allah has promised all sorts of rewards, gluttony and unlimited sex to Muslim men who kill the unbelievers in his name, not forgetting even those with pedophilic inclinations. We will be admitted to Paradise where we shall find “goodly things, beautiful ones, pure ones confined to the pavilions that man has not touched them before nor jinni” (56:67-71).
In the West we enjoy freedom of belief but we are not supposed to give such freedom to anyone else because it is written “If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good) (3:85).
As for women, the book of Allah says that they are inferior to men and their husbands have the right to scourge them if they are found disobedient (4:34). It advises men to take a green branch and beat their wives, because a green branch is more flexible and hurts more. (38:44). It teaches that women will go to hell if they are disobedient to their husbands (66:10). It maintains that men have an advantage over the women (2:228). It not only denies the women’s equal rights, it decrees that their witness is not admissible in the courts of law (2:282). This means that a woman who is raped cannot accuse her rapist unless she can produce a male witness. Our Holy Prophet allows us to marry up to four wives and he licensed us to sleep with our slave maids and as many ‘captive’ women as we may have (4:3) even if those women are already married. He himself did just that.
[A word of warning for those who may find their version of Quran is translated differently from those appearing in this article: Almost all the translators of Quran have deliberately tried to soften the harsh verses of Quran. Yusufali especially goes out of his way to twists the meaning of the words and hide the harshness of Quran. For example he translates the verse (38:44) that says “take a green branch and beat your wife” as “take a little green grass and strike therewith”. Or when he translates the verse (4:34) that says “beat your wife” he cannot help it but to add the word (lightly) in parenthesis.]
Dear fellow Muslim: Is this the Islam you believe in? Is this your Most Merciful, Most Compassionate Allah whom you worship daily? Could God incite us to kill other peoples? Please understand that there is no terrorist gene but there could be a terrorist mindset. That mindset finds its most fertile ground in the tenets of Islam. Denying it and presenting Islam as a religion of peace similar to Buddhism to the lay public is suppression of truth. The history of Islam between 7th and 14th century is riddled with violence, fratricide and wars of aggression, starting right from the death of the Prophet and during the so-called ‘pure’ or orthodox caliphate. And Muhammad himself hoisted the standard of killing, looting, massacres and bloodshed. How can we deny the entire history? The behavior of our Holy Prophet as recorded in authentic Islamic sources is quite questionable from a modern viewpoint. The Prophet was a charismatic man but he had few virtues. Imitating him in all aspects of life (following Sunnah) is firstly impossible and secondly dangerous in the 21st century. Why are we so helplessly in denial on this simple issue?

@vegetarian tiger, Almighty God will surely punish you for formulating and quoting wrong verses from no where to mislead your fellow christians. Is that what the Bible taught you ? your type of person are the ones causing confusion between different religion. The 2 recognised religion in this country preaches PEACE, but what would it benefit you if you cause disunity among the 2 religion ? Please, whatever you are uttering out of your gutter called “mouth”, you better have a re-think over it before vomiting rubbish.
