Bombings: We’ve arrested suspects – Jonathan

.Anglican Primate urges Nigerians to circumcise their hearts

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday revealed that suspects behind the bombings of Police Headquarters, UN Building in Abuja, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla and others, have been arrested. He disclosed this when he and First Lady, Dame Patience, his mother, some lawmakers and members of his cabinet attended the naming and circumcision of Jesus Christ and New Year service, held at the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Abuja, All Saints’ Church, Zone 5, Wuse.

He reassured that the New Year would be better for Nigeria, noting that he had laid solid foundations for the critical sectors. According to him, government would continue to provide employment for youths and encourage entrepreneurship. “The church’s prayers have been helping us to stabilise the country at the time of our challenges. There was time when the country was drifting and everyone thought the country would not endure but the prayers rescued us.

We have moved to another phase of terror, kidnapping and armed robbery but these are momentary challenges. “I receive constant briefings on security daily, though we don’t publish them. Most of the terror suspects had been arrested. People may not know what our men in uniform have been doing, they have been doing a lot to check the situation. The people, who bombed Force Headquarters, United Nations building in Abuja and St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla have been arrested.

We will continue to improve on our security architecture. “The New Year will be better for the country. We have a huge population and we will continue to provide employment for our people and encourage entrepreneurship,” he said. He blamed Nigeria’s problems on the attitude of the citizenry. “It’s ambition to get rich overnight that leads to robbery, kidnapping and all sorts of crime.” In his sermon, titled: “Circumcise your heart”, the Primate of Anglican Communion, Nigeria, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, urged Nigerians to circumsise their hearts – the church, businessmen, civil servants and politicians at all levels.

He also challenged teachers and academicians as well as students, who dress indecently on campuses to “circumsise their hearts.” He told market women, who sell fake products, petrol dealers and transporters, who hike prices in festive periods, kidnappers, armed robbers and Boko Haram sect to “circumcise their hearts”. Okoh also advised youths, who are in a haste to ride Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV), having graduated from school to circumsise their hearts and be patient. According to him, traditional rulers, university authorities, who sell doctorate degrees and titles to those who are not worthy of them also need to “circumsise their hearts.”

To be regarded as uncircumcised means you are a godless person. Jesus demonstrated his circumcision by being obedient. We ought to be obedient to God’s laws. Circumcision as it affects us today means cutting off sin, corruption, bitterness and so on and so forth. “As we enter the New Year, we should cut off certain things. I ask Nigerian clergy, business community, who exploit people, civil servants, who hide files, politicians at all levels, teachers, who persecute girls for refusing to sleep with them, traders, who sell substandard products, transporters, who hike prices, petroleum product sellers, who shortchange Nigerians, kidnappers, armed robbers and Boko Haram to circumcise their hearts.

“This is important so that in the New Year, we will build a nation that our children will be proud of. Those looking for opportunity to make money without working; young graduates, seeking for contracts instead of employment, who want to ride SUVs; this is a deformity of the heart. It is a wrong lifestyle to start from the top. All of us Nigerians should circumcise our hearts. “The name of Jesus Christ must not be joked with, else when you need Him to work for you and you evoke the name it will not work.

“Some of us have to limit our lives to just money while God can give you a name, a promotion that is bigger than money. Nigeria shall rise up and walk in 2013. “The year 2013 is a trackless sea, a desert. The guiding hand you have is that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. The most important thing for those holding high, low and oversized responsibilities in the nation is to bind Jesus to yourself and it shall be well.

“God will be gracious to us as a people and to our nation, Nigeria,” he said The Old Testament lesson was read by First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, from Genesis. 17: 9-16. Also present to worship with the president were Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd.) and Minister of State, FCT, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinjide, presidential aides, amongst others.

Every New Year comes with all sorts of vain promises, but if I may ask, what is the differences between January and December? They’re all the same, so do all you ought to do and stop nagging on New Year sentiments.

  4. Dele Odugbemi January 2, 2013 at 3:17 am

Mr President, please we are tired of promises upon promises year in, year out that have never been kept. What Nigerians expect this new year is total action that will bring joy and happiness to the homes of very poor majority in our country.
The leaders of this country are ingrates and wicked souls that should circumcise their hearts because they are the people that criminally display the stolen wealth from the country’s treasures that made some other criminally minded people outside government offices to follow them by going into crimes for survival.
PDP governments at federal level and some of their controlled states since 1999 till date are the causes of abject poverty the masses are going through due to high profile corruptions that have been going on unchecked.
President Jonathan should disown all the old and recycled men that surround him with no ideas that can propel the government to deliver the so called dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
    God bless Nigeria.

This is exactly 1 year when you hike the price of fuel in the name of SUBSIDY. You promised all Nigerians that by three months everything would be alright, perhaps you’re going to build new Tower of Nigeria to reach Heaven. Till now, Nigerians are yet to see the outcome of your wicked and selfish manner of SUBSIDY. But thank GOD sha that you did not welcome and bombard the Nation with another New Year Gift, Oga Subsidy.

Let him arrest and try past corrupt leaders and those who are in his government. If he can arrest them and submit himself for trial, then, things will changed.

If the suspects have been arrested, let the president unmask them for the world to see the faces of our enemies; that is what it takes to live in a democratic society. It is only in Nigeria that things work in a different direction. For example, someone was arrested and indicted for the embezzlement and mismanagement of public funds, and the same person was recently appointed as the Board Chairman of Nigeria Port Authority by our president. All we need in Nigeria is for all the crazy elected officials to account for their deeds while in office.
What happened to the report of the commission that carried out the investigation of the indicted person that is now our president choice of Nigeria Port authority Board chairman? and what is the House of Senate as well as the House of assemble doing with the report ?.
    What a shame?

Wake up Nigeria! The beauty of democracy is freedom to the people. By Abraham Lincolns’ definition, the most stressed factor is the ‘peopl’. The greatest fear during the time of Ceaser in ancient Roman democracy was the fear of what the people would do. It is still so today! Checkout Middle East uprisings. In a nation of about 160 million population, less than 10% are roasting the rest in hell. We have todays’ democracy because people stepped out to fight dictatorship…all thanks to Prof. Soyinka and his prodemocracy couterparts. How many of those talking has ever stepped out to seek justice? How many Nigerians drag thier misbehaving community folks to court? The massses praise rich criminals and condemn those that petition against evil machinations. The senators beaten up during the recent constitution review will surely get seriouse with their constituents. We need to do more and talk less. NGOs are in their thousands but none is combatant against bad leadership. Instead of use the social network as a tribal weapon of war-fare, how often do we help the Police with useful information to checkmate crime? Even if you bring Obama of US to Nigeria, he will achieve nothing. The followership in America is what makes the difference. It is a crooked tree that makes an amateur a perfect climber. Leave Jonathan alone! The strength of a leader is his followers.

We are the problem of ourselves
Making nigeria better Į̸s a collective responsbility.our leaders are not trying, our fathers are not trying, our mothers are not trying and our youths are not trying.
1.Our leaders fail to realise that the best reources to invest on in this country Į̸s human resources, instead of *NG* goin out to china or everywhere to import everything, why don’t we ask those company to come and establish their company in our country If our leaders realy have our intrest?the companies will creat more job opourtunity, job oppourtunity will eradicate poverty and crime.
2.Our fathers has fail to act as α̲̅ good father ǂøя new generation,I still remember back in the days,U̶̲̥̅̊ don’t say you want to hammer money in presence of your dad,u can only promise your father that when I finish school and I get a job I will take care of you and our fathers will say amen and give you his blessing.but today no father want to ask his son how he makes his money.
3.Our mothers Αre not trying, they are being too romantic in everything that their children does, mothers spends more time with the children, they knows more about their childrens attitude than than the fathers,ǂøя parents to go and pay somebody to help their child write exam,u are simply destroying the future of that child, becos if he or she eventualy gradguate, will he/she become the best gynacology, doctor or an engineer,or α̲̅ politician that will be transparent in the near future?
4.Our youth are not trying as well,if make the use of U̶̲̥̅̊я time postively u gain positive result. Ϟ•̸ђåŧ will become of you in future Į̸s Ur choice.the mind set of average youth today Į̸s how to hammer money to buy α̲̅ big car and a big house.
Finaly everything ball down to the quality of our education toady.our educational system Į̸s corrupt, parents will go and pay schools to make sure their children pass exam not to make sure they teach their the end of the day Į̸s just the reach men who’s child never attended class will pass exam and the same children will have express job oppourtunity, becos our employement system Į̸s who knows who?
М̣̣̥̇̊Ɣ advice Į̸s ǂøя the fedral governent to boost our educational system with decipline mesure, infact srab all the private schools. Education Į̸s the foundation of good society and a good nation,if we have a good nation poverty and crime will reduce to zero level.
Let’s help ourselves ǂøя better tomorrow.

I wish all 9ija home boys & home girls the most precious happy New Year,Long life and prosperity with the great Wisdom of God to Win our enemies. Again,Let us look into the comments from our President Goodluck Jonathan saying that 9ija Security Force have arrested those Boko Haram Terrorist groups who bomb our Police Headquarters, UN Building in Abuja, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla and others. But my question is” Those Arrested Boko Haram Groups what are their Names?

  18. Ebe January 2, 2013 at 12:53 pm

I like our President Goodluck Jonathan pls don’t expect him to be killing the northern s in the name of fighting Boko Haram

  19. Uyome January 2, 2013 at 1:23 pm

I’m not expecting anything better from any quarter so long as Nigeria is divided along ethnic, religious and cultural lines, there can not be any meaningful change to our believe and doubts and to our soci-economic/ political orientations.
I strongly believe that for any change to come, the other Nigerians should have allowed the OLD EASTERN REGION (SOUTH-SOUTH/ SOUTH-EAST) a stake into the Seat of Power. And when this must have happened then, we can now forge a probable diagnostic attitude to what we all dire for which is “CHANGE”. Unless this happens, the doubts shall exist in our hearts, the fight for self succession shall continue; hatreds, cultural & tribal difference shall continue and there can not be one Nigeria.
God bless the Old Eastern Region!
God bless the United Provinces Biafrans!!

  21. Great Nchuma January 2, 2013 at 3:04 pm

@ Ebe or whatever you call yourself, the President should not be killing the northern s in the name of fighting Boko Haram, but the Boko Haram should be killing the southern s in the name of fighting Jonathan. You are a northern bigotry . The govt should do everything within her power to bring the terrorists to their knees and save innocent Nigerian. My worry is that govt is not doing enough.

Breaking news that a decade after the bombing, those involved are purported to have been arrested.

Please tell us how many of them will be discharged and acquited. Nigerians would have been happy if u have given them list of those serving prison terms for their involvement in boko Haram. Its unfortunate that since all these bombings are going, no top personality have been jailed.

There fore, whether they are arrested or not, it shows no difference. They will be released soon for want of no evidence.

Mr. President, your government is corrupt.
    Your judges a bribe takers
    Your ministers are looters
Your party officials are old criminals
    Your governors are robbers

There is nothing good with you and those u have selected to work with you. Judement awaits on your door step.
