Tension as CPC wins Kaduna LG poll

• PDP clears 22 council areas

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) yesterday won Kaduna North in the local government election organised by the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) which announced the result.

There was tention prior to the release of the Kaduna North result which is the CPC’s stronghold. It is the council area  where Vice President Namadi Sambo hailed from.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the other 22 local government areas.

Twice, the SIEC changed the time it originally set to announce the results of the outcome of the election, held in the 23 local government areas last Saturday.

Daily Sun learnt that of the 23 councils, PDP won all but one. Incidentally, the only one it lost, headquarters of which is within the Kaduna metropolis, is where Vice President Namadi Sambo resides, a place, political observers believed, is the strongest base of the CPC in the state.

Recall that during the April 2011 general election, Vice President Sambo lost the National Assembly, presidential and governorship elections in his ward, within the council area.

Traditionally too, since 1999, except in some controversial circumstances, Kaduna North has always fallen to the opposition, in the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives and council elections.

Indications that all was not well over the result of Kaduna North Local Government Area election first emerged yesterday afternoon when a respected Kaduna resident, who was sympathetic to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, gave Daily Sun an information. The source was purportedly coming from a meeting over the alleged plans by Boko Haram to unleash terror on the state, if the outcome of the election does not favour a particular political party.

Although, the resident did not mention the name of the political party, but said: “The information that came in was that they might either disrupt the local government election or the inauguration. They were targeting that if a certain party did not win a number of local government they will strike. So we are waiting, may be if the result of the elections come out, their threat may be true or it may not be true.

“They are going about in a car with a plate number (withheld), a Kano plate number, they are moving about in an expensive car, there are different versions of the plate numbers.  We want to catch them, they are here in Kaduna, and they want to stop the peace of Kaduna by all means.

“According to the information reaching us, they said they want to make Kaduna unsettled as Maiduguri. Fortunately, the security in Kaduna is very tight, irrespective of what happened in Jaji.”

As at press time, CPC supporters were already spoiling for a showdown, in case SIEC decided to carry out its alleged plan.

Meanwhile, journalists in Kaduna yesterday walked out on the SIEC over non-release of the local government election results conducted last Saturday in the 23 council areas.

Reporters were kept waiting from 2pm till 7 pm, yet there was no sign of releasing the result at press time, just as SIEC officials showed no concern to the waiting journalists.

All efforts to know the state of the result and when it would actually be released was met with a brickwall as the SIEC Chairman, Mrs Hannatu Biniyat was not addressing newsmen.

However, SIEC sources said she was waiting for a directive from above on whether to announce the result or not as Kaduna North where Sambo hails from was said to have been lost to the opposition.

One Suleiman Sumaila of the CPC was said to have defeated Bala Dangogo of the PDP for the Kaduna North chairmanship.

Also, the ruling PDP may have cleared 22 of the 23 local governments, which had created fear of possible breakdown of law and order as earlier threatened by the opposition parties.

Some SEIC officials said the report could not be announced due to an electrical fault in the conference hall, while others said the result of Kaduna North was being awaited before the entire results could be announced.

Only returning officers from Kaduna North and Chikun local government areas were said to have delayed in turning in their results at the commission.

It is not surprising CPC won ,am only surprised PDP submitted to defeat

I don’t support terror, but I also do not like the way we treat serious issues such as election. There was no need trying to manipulate the result. Election is the will of the people so anybody or party can win in any location as long as it’s their wish. Our people and all political parties believe in rigging elections; how can we enthrone an enduring democracy? I weep for Naija!

Why should there be tension because CPC has resisted the usual manipulation of election results by the evil PDP (PETROLUEM DEREGULATION PARTY)? Going by the names of the reporters, I am not the least suprised that they associated the victory of CPC to Boko Haram rather than free and fair conduct of election by the state electoral commission. What else does one expect? It is no longer news that some journalists and newspapers are responsible for fanning ethnic and religious discord in Nigeria. Shame on you.

Nobody is a visitor in this land, we know hw elections ve alwz being conducted in Nigeria, especially now that PDP has inventd an unsuspected sophisticated rigging machine. Howeva, an agrieved party or individual is always adviced to seek redress through legal means than taking laws into dia hands. This impending mayhem is a sister to wat happend in 2011 Presidential election. So my question to CPC leader, Gen. Buhari is: are u stil denying that you dnt ve anythin to do with Boko Haram? Why is it dt anytime cpc falls short of political expectation, Boko body will threaten 4 a showdown and fire? I dnt tink we need a magician 4 further clearification. Buhari pls repent, call ur boys, Vandals and arsonists to Order b4 its too late. And 9ja security agents pls continue 2 be at red alert.
Lest i 4get pls those stupid goats make sure u dnt touch Southerners shops wen u start 4 ur info. God help Nigeria.

It has started becoming interesting the way the ruling party is using Boko Haram to excuse its not having it her own way. Why should Boko Haram strike against the state on only the results of Kaduna North? Why not the entire result?
I believe the PDP is only using the word Boko Haram to distort facts, in the event that people refuse to have the election results manipulated.

  9. Tingilin December 3, 2012 at 11:03 am

These Reporters are also boko haramites, if not why only them saw the boko haram that threatens the entire result of Kaduna election?
I urge the management of this newspaper to kindly save its integrity by not publishing fake stories like this one.

  10. Malcolmx December 3, 2012 at 11:41 am

This reporters are doing disservice to CPC,s it because CPC won that you made you see boko around or it’s because the votersrefuse to allow their will to be overturned as always be every election?if we can at least stand by our votes in 2015,i am sure we will never gain regret casting our votes to those who derive joy in wasting our money!

Ya Allah!may ur wil be done in Nigeria. If not noone is planning on how to rebrand de nation o

  12. tokan December 3, 2012 at 7:59 pm

CPC=BOKO HARAM. I am not surprised. Also, this shows that Namadi Sambo has no base. He NEVER executed a project when he was governor.

  13. Macmo December 3, 2012 at 9:32 pm

I still belive that Buhari has a question 2 answer concerning Boko Haram. If He feel’s that He is stronger than Jonathan, what about God. Just a day d truth shall spring forth. God bless Nija

This shows that the Man called VP,whom GEJ choose as his running mate did not have any electoral value just like
OBJ who lost his constituency and still become President by ‘mago’ ‘mago’.may be if real election is conducted today may be GEJ and many Governors may loose their constitu-
    ency like the VP.
Scrap LGA as suggested by fearless Sanusi and save more trillions for the politicians to steal.i am in support of scraping the LGA.if not scrap State Independent Election body that only comply with Governor’s desires.if
all the Governors is to be GEJ,all the States would have being ruled by PDP Governors.if there is no other thing that will make me to have only one thing to praise GEJ
it will be on conduct of election.

God will surely intervene in the election riggings, stealing of public funds, injustices delivered, armed robberies, killings of innocent souls, etc to save this country.
