Sunshine Stars’ midfielder, Tamen Medrano, has rated the Nigerian League tougher and more competitive than the Cameroonian League. The Cameroon import, who bagged an award as the Best Foreign Player in the Nigerian League in the immediate past season, revealed that he adapted to the Nigerian League fast because both nations play physical football.
“The Nigerian League is very physical, perhaps, more physical than that of Cameroon. One of the reasons I adapted fast in the Nigerian League is the fact that Cameroonian players are very physical. But I think the Nigerian League is tougher and more competitive than that of Cameroon,” he said. Medrano, who could not hide his excitement over his award, told League Unlimited that he would command more respect back home among his friends, former teammates and family, all of who, according to him, would be proud of him for his achievement in Nigeria.
“The award means a lot to me. Nigerians may not understand it, but I’m sure by the time I return to Cameroon, my friends and family would be very proud of me,” Medrano relished. “It would be an unforgettable experience for me to be honoured with the Best Foreign Player Award in the Nigerian League, the first of its kind. I am grateful to my teammates because without their support I couldn’t have won the award.
“I thank my coach for having confidence in me because if he had not given me the chance to play, I wouldn’t have been able to showcase my talent. I am indeed overwhelmed by the award and I am going to cherish it for many years to come.
“I know that many foreign players would come to play in the Nigerian League in years to come. I cherish the award because my name has gone down in history as the first foreign player to win the award in the history of Nigerian League. Whenever subsequent awards are held, my name would always be remembered as the first player to win the award,” Medrano enthused.
