Eagles star on target as Chelsea crushes Southampton
By Onyewuchi Nwachukwu
Stephen Keshi would obviously be relishing the prospect of unleashing Victor Moses at the 2013 Nations Cup after watching the Chelsea star post a scintillating performance to help the Blues crush Southampton 5-1in the third round of the FA Cup yesterday.
The former Wigan winger was a torn in the flesh of the defence line of Southampton with his pace and creative play which culminated in his scoring the goal that made it 2-1 for Chelsea after Demba Ba’s equalizer. Keshi will be wishing that Moses should replicates his goal scoring form for the Eagles when they take on Burkina Faso on January 21, in the team’s first group game.
With Fernando Torres looking on from the bench, Rafa Benitez’s men fell behind when Jay Rodriguez turned Jason Puncheon’s ball beyond Ross Turnbull. Debutant Ba, signed from Newcastle for £7.5million earlier this week, pulled the Blues level from close range before Victor Moses fired them ahead before the break.
Branislav Ivanovic added a third early in the second half, while Ba netted his second of the afternoon just after the hour mark. And substitute Frank Lampard again proved his worth to the club, who appear happy to let him walk away for nothing in the summer by netting a fifth from the penalty spot.
