Ivorian club, Asec Mimosas, will demand a FIFA ban on Flying Eagles’ striker, Olanrewaju Kayode if he fails to rejoin the team. Asec claims the 20-year old striker still has a year left on his contract with the club, but he has refused to team up with his teammates.
A top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said that Asec has formally complained to the football body about the ‘missing’ Kayode, who several European clubs are trailing following his performance at the 2013 African Youth Championship in Algeria (AYC). “Asec has informed us that Kayode still has a valid contract with them till next year.
The club has also told us that it has expected the player back after his loan spell in Switzerland with FC Lucerne, but instead of rejoining Asec, the player has been undergoing trials in Europe,” the official said. “The club said it would ask FIFA to ban the player outright if he fails to rejoin them.” NFF officials are expected to meet with the player to get his own side of the story on the matter.
However, Kayode’s representative, who was in Algeria for the AYC has said that there was no cause for alarm, because the issue around the player would soon be resolved. “Kayode has several offers after the AYC, but we will resolve with Asec before we take up any of the openings being presented to the player,” he said.
The former schoolboy international, who recently underwent trials at Dynamo Minsk of Belarus in Turkey, has since left Algeria. He is believed to have interest in clubs in France or join Egyptian giant, Al Ahly. Four years ago, Kayode had also sparked off claim controversy from the Red Bull Academy of Ghana.
