Today, she has the great body of a dancer and has earned millions of naira teaching people about the benefits of dance both as a profession and a short cut to good health. But once upon a time, the dancer known as Kaffy was an obese teenager who had low self- esteem and a butt of jokes among her peers. A close pal and ex-classmate who simply gave his name as Victor revealed to Skoops how the Danceaton winner and Guinness Book of World Records holder overcame chronic obesity and reinvented herself to emerge Nigeria’s hottest dancer thus inspiring millions of youth. “Back in the days at school in Surulere, Lagos, Kaffy was what you’d describe as a slob. She used to be the butt of jokes in class as her peers called her ‘fatso’. She had pimples like craters all over her face and never really had friends and so stuck to herself. That was when she discovered dance as a way of losing weight,” he explained. The source added that after leaving school, Kaffy lost weight dramatically and at a point friends felt she was HIV positive. “She put in all she had into it and believed she could do it. Kaffy is a goal getter. She danced her way into shape. She did not end there, she decided to carve a career out of this and so she became Nigeria’s first contemporary professional dancer, dancing for Ruggedman and 2face among a host of others and before she knew it, she was earning good money. Danceaton finally changed her career forever. She turned her pains into gains, she turned her disability into ability and today she is one of the highest paid dancers in the country,” he concluded.
